Rapper PRODIGY has slammed reports he was hospitalised in New York earlier this week (begs11Feb08), insisting he is in "very good" health. The hip-hop star was to begin his three-and-a-half year prison sentence on Wednesday (13Feb08) - stemming from a 2006 gun charge he pleaded guilty to in October 2007 - but was granted a second medical exemption by a New York judge on the same day. Prodigy - real name Albert Johnson - was previously due to be incarcerated on 8 January (08) but was given a temporary postponement by a judge after reportedly suffering complications due to his sickle-cell anaemia condition. In a blog posted on his official website on Wednesday (13Feb08), Johnson writes: "Who cares what they say, they say a lot. Spell/pronounce my name right when it's time... I did (concert dates in) Connecticut twice in a row, B.B. King's in New York, then Boston, Albany and New Hampshire. "So I don't know why they wanna say I'm sick in the hospital. I'm very good, getting that show bread (payment)." A representative for Prodigy has also confirmed he was not hospitalised.
Prosecutors dismissed misdemeanor charges against Miami rapper Trick Daddy yesterday (February 14).
Charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest were tossed, after prosecutors admitted the rapper did not commit any crimes during an altercation last September at Tootsies Cabaret.
Police responded to a fight at the gentleman's club around 1:00 am and found a visibly intoxicated Trick Daddy cursing and threatening the staff.
Police allegedly asked Trick Daddy, 33, to leave multiple times, before taking him into custody.
The rapper was taken to a local hospital, treated for minor injuries sustained during the fight at Tootsies and then arrested and charged with the two misdemeanor offenses.
Representatives for Trick Daddy said he was very pleased with the outcome of yesterday's court proceedings.
MOMS CALLS TONY YAYO "DESPICABLE"; DEMANDS APOLOGY FROM 50 CENT!
The mother of a young teenager that claims he was assaulted by G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo and an associate has spoken out against court proceedings today, which saw criminal charges against the rapper dismissed.
Yayo and an associate named Lawell Fletcher pled guilty today (February 14), for their roles in an altercation in which the young son of music executive Jimmy "Henchmen" Rosemond was backhanded.
Lawell will do nine months in prison, while Yayo, born Marvin Bernard, will do 60 days of community service for his role in the March 2007 assault on the child, which took place on 25th Street in New York, as he walked to his internship at Czar Entertainment.
The boy’s mother Cynthia Reed labeled Yayo’s crime against a minor as "despicable."
"As much as Marvin Bernard tried to wiggle his way out of his role in assaulting my son, who is a minor, he had to accept responsibility to accept a plea deal," Ms. Reed stated. "He couldn't hide behind 50 Cent, G-Unit, Violator management or his co-defendant. This malicious crime against a child is despicable and any industry sponsor or company that supports individuals like Tony Yayo should remove themselves from a relationship with him and his affiliated entities."
Ms. Reed demanded an apology from rap superstar 50 Cent, who denied that Yayo was involved in the incident.
In April of 2007, 50 Cent released a statement condemning the attack and claimed he was launching an investigation into the incident.
"Crimes against children should never be legitimized just because a person is an entertainer," said Reed, who led a number of public demonstrations denouncing the rapper and his G-Unit brand last year.
"A public apology is appropriate at this time, not only from Tony Yayo but from 50 Cent for denying this event ever happened--- as if my son was lying when all along they knew this assault had taken place," Reed said.
