ASHER ROTH WANTS FORGIVENESS FOR HIS PUBLICITY STUNT!

Although his album is tracking well, Asher Roth has been getting a lot of flack lately for his recent racial comments, including a joke he made via his Twitter account. These comments include Roth’s attempt at a joke referencing the comments made by Radio DJ Don Imus to which Asher says “The twitter situation was an immature attempt to poke fun at an infamously moronic joke. Roth also recently made remarks about the way rappers spend their money. “It is not my place to talk about what others should do with their lives,” Asher says. Now the freshman rapper has issued a full statement, apologizing for everything.

Asher Roth’s Full Statement:

As of late, statements I’ve made have been stirring up much controversy and speculation. It is in my best interest that I feel I should address these instances personally and specifically. Truth: I am 23 year old imperfect human being who’s world is drastically changing around him. Facebook is no longer for just me and my friends. Twitter is no longer solely for the watchful eye of my parents. A new responsibility and voice has been placed upon me and is being heard well beyond my immediate peers. I’ve been receiving a crash course on perspectives and a very real sensitivity that exists and is an essential part of our world. With that, I’d like to sincerely apologize for any words that have been misinterpreted and may have offended any man, woman or child.

The twitter situation was an immature attempt to poke fun at an infamously moronic joke. In doing so, I unconsciously stooped to the level of its originator, making it just as bad, if not worse. Pathetic. Lesson learned - nothing good can come from repeating hateful words, regardless of your intentions. Leaving no context in what was being said and being presented through text (no facial or vocal inflection) the sarcasm of the joke (or lack there of) was not properly perceived and left it purely in bad taste. I immediately apologized for my immaturity but the apologies and original post were deleted by my team in an effort to prevent more people from being offended. Unfortunately, the deletion of these statements led several people to believe that my apology was insincere, which is why I have made the decision to release this statement.

The latest quote on giving back was in response to a question about rappers and their money posed to me by the interviewer. With the question and entire vibe of the conversation not being present in the article, when my statement came out in print it appeared as if I was taking black rappers to task randomly. Not the case. Although I do feel strongly about giving back when we are in a position of power and prosperity, it is not my place to talk about what others should do with their lives. Lesson learned: talk about what you know. You can call them mistakes, I call them life lessons. It is my duty as a human being to choose my words carefully, for I am a kind soul who puts a lot of stock in the progess of humans. I am a work in progress, as we all are and I will take this opportunity to learn and grow. Its bigger than an apology, its an understanding.

Moving forward, I hope we can all take some perspective and guidance from the dialogue that has emerged from these situations. I know I already have and will continue to do so.

Onward and upward

With love,

Asher Roth

ANDRE 3000 ESCAPES HIS LEGAL ISSUES!

Outkast member Andre 3000 caught a break this week. The rapper slash actor settled his debt by paying a find for speeding, avoiding having to appear infront of a judge. Andre 3k paid the $1,200 fine Wednesday (April 29th) before he was set to face a judge for the offense. Andre 3000 was arrested on the morning of March 28th (Saturday) for driving fourty-four miles-per-hour over the speed limit on Atlanta’s Interstate 75. The Outkast member was driving his vehicle 109 MPH, telling the officer he was heading to a birthday party.

I STILL DON’T THINK EMINEM WILL RESPOND TO THIS!

After his album debuted number one this week, Rick Ross is feeling good… perhaps to good. In a new video live from St. Martin, Ricky Ross first gloats about his sales then dives right into his anti-G-Unit/Shady talk. “Them niggas got dropped from Interscope. I popped a bottle of champagne. And “Schindler’s List” ain’t even drop yet. [Listed on early DTR tracklists.] We’re saving that for the Triple C debut album.” Rick Ross then turns his attention to Eminem saying “Now they [Whoo Kid in a video last week] saying “munghkey” could be black-on-black racial. So the only way I can fix that: Eminem, you’re a munghkey. He’s really a hunghkey [honky]. But that’s racial…It’s no longer Curly, RIP. Now he’s Woodface.”

IS THAT RIGHT MOS DEF?

Rapper slash actor Mos Def reportedly banned the use of the “N-Word” not only on the set but in his upcoming new R-rated movie “Next Day Air.” Fellow actor Wood Harris recently talked about their decision to not use the word saying “It was something that was very important to us,” Harris explained. “It was our way of making a statement that we can express ourselves without using the N-word. But it wasn’t just in the movie that we banned the word. We also banned it on the set. No one could say it at all. At first it was difficult, but we really stayed on top of each other. By the end of … filming, I don’t know if it was something that even came up. We just didn’t say it, and had no desire to. I hope that other people will start trying to find new ways to express themselves as well.” In related news, “Next Day Air” hits theaters on May 8th and co-stars Donald Faison and Mike Epps. Directed by Benny Boom (50 Cent “The Massacre”, Ciara “Goodies”) the new film follows two inept criminals as they are mistakenly delivered a package of cocaine.

SHE DID NOT NEED ANY MORE JAIL TIME…

Brooklyn’s own Foxy Brown has caught a break. The female rapper had her Blackberry assault suit thrown out according to the New York Post. On Monday (April 27th) Judge Robert Miller, of the Brooklyn Supreme Court, dismissed the suit saying that the rap star was never actually served the legal papers. Foxy Brown, better known to the government as Inga Marchand, was sued by her Prospect Heights neighbor Arlene Raymond last year after an incident in July of 2007 where Raymond says she was hit by Foxy with her Blackberry phone.

RICK ROSS BABY MOMMA GETS HER LIL SHINE ON!

Rick Ross Baby Momma Tiallondra Kemp just released her tell-all book ‘Deeper than Rap’ about life with William Leonard Roberts, Jr. His a snippet of some of this silly ghettoness:

I looked at my watch, it was 4:30pm on January 21, 2009, the day I had been waiting to come for eight months. It was the day of the deposition in the child support case I had filed against the father of my third son, William Leonard Roberts Jr. also known as the big-time rapper (not the notorious drug dealer, don’t get them confused) Rick Ross. I had started this battle against William 17 months earlier after our tumultuous four-year relationship filled with passion and pain. My lawyer Ileana M. Almeida had spent the last eight months trying to get Will’s lawyer Allan Zamren to make Will do the deposition for the case. They’d canceled two times already so I was surprised that William had finally showed up and was glad we were gonna to get things going. Ever since he’d become a celebrity, Will had been a different person. That mixed with his touring and promotions schedule and the life of a rap star is what made it so hard for anything in the child support case to move forward. His attitude also made things difficult.

LIL WAYNE MORE INFLUENTIAL THAN PRESIDENT OBAMA!

Time Magazine recently released their infamous “Worlds Most Influential Person” list and let us tell you, you will be surprised how it turned out. Finalists for the list were chosen through a poll featured on Time’s website and rapper Lil Wayne came in 12th with close to 940,000 votes, probably since most of the voting was done during “Tha Carter III” hype. Weezy beat out “30 Rock” creator/star Tina Fey (15), singer T-Pain (34), “Family Guy” Creator Seth Macfarlane (40), rapper Kanye West (144) and even The President Of The United States Barack Obama who grabbed #37. The number one spot went to Christopher Poole, the founder of 4chan.org, after he received close to 17 miillion votes (which we are sure he was promoting heavily. Other music artists and stars included on the list include M.I.A. (105), Prince (104), and NBA star Kobe Bryant (9).
