As we previously reported, part of T.I.'s plea agreement for the three federal weapons charges he was convicted of, includes 1500 hours of community service along with a year in prison. The agreement states that most of the 1500 hours of community service would be T.I. speaking with youth groups about the perils of gangs, guns and drugs. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, within 24 hours of the announcement of the plea agreement, a ton requests to have T.I. speak started to pour in. The Rev. Daniel L. Edwards III, president of Georgia’s Henry County chapter of the NAACP is among many community leaders who says he will ask T.I. to come speak to his youth. “We want to come up with a way to use his celebrity status and use him as a spokesman to reach the masses,” Edwards said, continuing “They need to hear: Gangs are not cool, jails are not cool, guns and violence are not cool.”
The southern rapper is also required to promote respect for law enforcement under the terms of his plea. Actress Journee Smollett asked T.I. to speak to kids as part of her "Catch Me Before I Fall" initiative, and T.I. has also agreed to do a PSA for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America's "It's Cool To Be Smart" program.
Pharrell Williams' new protege, and Star Trak Records artist, Teyana Taylor is about to debut her album From A Planet Called Harlem. The 16-year-old Harlem New York native is used to the spotlight as she had her own episode of MTV's "Super Sweet 16" with her 80's themed b-day bash. She also got an endorsement from Jay-Z and Beyonce as she was in Jay's "Blue Magic" video and taught Beyonce the "Chicken Noodle Soup" which Beyonce used on her 2007 MTV VMA performance. Teyana said "That kind of love coming from Jay and Beyonce, was crazy. When he said, 'Yo, you're a superstar. I'll see you at the top,' I was humbled, like wow!"
From A Planet Called Harlem, which is a mixture of R&B, pop rock and rap, will feature production from Jazze Pha, Pharrell, Mad Scientist, Frost, Shondre and Hit Boy. "From the songs to the production -- the whole direction of the album is insane," said Teyana. "It's a story about having fun." The album will drop in May via Star Trak & Interscope Records.
